Announces 2019 Fall Season basketball skills building programs
Registration is now underway for the St. Mary’s 2019 Fall CYO off-season basketball skills program led by Mike Evans.
Program Objective: To teach fundamental basketball techniques, to show players how to improve their abilities, to inspire them to spend time on their own to work on their skills and to prepare players for their winter seasons. In order to further prepare players for the winter season, they will be playing full court games, in addition to their usual skill workouts. The 90 minute sessions will be split in half - 45 minutes of skills and 45 minutes of scrimmaging, with score kept and new teams organized every week.
Mike Evans Coach Bio: Mike is the Head Varsity Coach at Wooster School, where in the past two seasons he's compiled a record of 37-7, winning two straight conference championships. Mike is a Shooting Coach, and recently landed his first NBA player in Jakkar Sampson, newly signed to the Indiana Pacers. Mike spent a year coaching Division 1 college basketball at Harvard, where he got his Master's in Education, after playing two years of professional basketball in Ireland. Mike played college basketball at Hamilton College, and high school basketball at Weston High School.
Who:Ridgefield boys & girls currently attending grades 5th thru 8th beginning in August 2019 are eligible to participate.
Boy’s 5th & 6th grade times: Thursday’s at 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm beginning September 5th (except Oct 5 & Oct 26)
Dates: 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 10/3, Sat 10/5@5:00 pm, 10/10, 10/17, Sat 10/26@ 5:00 pm
Boy’s 7th & 8th grade times: Thursday’s at 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm beginning September 5th (except Oct 5 & Oct 26)

Registration is now underway for the 2019 Ridgefield St. Mary’s Summer Basketball League.
Boys and girls currently attending grades 4 thru 7 are eligible to participate. There are no tryouts. The first 40 players registered per division* will be accepted for the 2019 CYO Summer League. The deadline to enroll is June 20th. Players must be a resident of the town of Ridgefield, Connecticut or attend St. Mary’s School.
The St Mary’s CYO summer league is designed to provide friendly competition in a structured environment. There will be no practices and no coaches (players will coach themselves; parents are invited to enjoy watching but not coach or offer instruction during games). Players will show up and play games with their assigned teams. An organizer will be on the sidelines to make substitutions every few minutes. The game scores are kept, so the kids play hard to win, but no standings will be maintained, nor is any championship is awarded. Each game will have an official referee.
The league will begin on or after June 24th through August 2nd. Each team will play 10 games. The games take place during weekday evenings from 5 pm to 9 pm and Sunday’s from 4 pm to 9 pm (No Saturdays)
Cost: $95 per player.

*St Mary’s will make every effort to construct age/grade appropriate divisions based on the number of sign ups. If there is low turnout, we may choose to merge age/grade groups or may choose to not field an age/grade division at all.
Announces spring season basketball skills building programs
Registration is now underway for the St. Mary’s 2019 Spring CYO off-season basketball skills program led by Mike Evans
Program Objective: To teach all fundamental basketball techniques and to inspire kids and show them how to spend time on their own to improve their abilities.
Becoming a great basketball player requires discipline and practice. These sessions will provide specific instruction on defense, passing, shooting, dribbling, rebounding and scoring. While the sessions are drill-focused, every week will feature scrimmaging and other fun games.
Mike Evans Coach Bio
Mike Evans is the current Head Coach at The Wooster School. His team recently won their second consecutive HVAL championship this past winter. Mike is also the Founder of Right Angle Shooting, a basketball shooting instruction company, which he runs with NBA Shooting Coach, Dave Hopla.
A native of Weston, Mike was an All-State player in high school, played in two NCAA tournaments as a player at Hamilton College, and was a Manager of the Ivy League Champion Men’s Basketball Team at Harvard University, where Mike earned a Master's Degree in Education in 2011. A former high school varsity coach, Mike is one of the most sought-after shooting instructors on the east coast, and he speaks at camps and runs clinics around the country throughout the summer. He is also a Spanish teacher at Wooster and the Founder of Full Court Peace.
